Los Cristianos, the vibrant hub of the south

Tenerife has grown fast over the last 30 years, and it is a measure of the quality of Los Cristianos that it has added a bright modern look while retaining its character and thriving as a working port.

The smiling face of Los Cristinaos is the stunning man made Las Vistas beach (above) . stretching 862 metres in a golden crescent around the Atlantic. Everything a visitor or local could want is here, water sport and fun boat hire at each end of the beach, the San Telmo commercail complex looking down with its tier of bars and restaurants, and even special areas to ensure that disabled swimmers get to share in the joys of bathing and swimming.

Crossing under the small tunnel, you arrive at the old beach near the port. This is still a busy centre of commerce with fishing boats bringing in their catch and ferries linking Tenerife to the other Canary Islands. Behind the beach the tight old streets have some great shops and restaurants to explore in the shade and the church plaza is a focal point for fiestas and live music.

Moving inland a little, modern developments have added to the buzz of Los Cristianos, but a glance up will reveal the mountains, a reminder of the rugged beauty of the island, and a gateway to many small villages where more charms await.

Mirador del Atlantico, great views, great location.

Sometimes it’s difficult meeting everyones needs, looking for a bright new development in a quiet tranquil setting but still close to the heart of Los Cristianos? Chayofa would be the perfect solution, and Mirador del Atlantico, the ideal place to make your home.

Just 5 minutes drive up from the main crossroads and bus station of Los Cristianos, you will find Chayofa, a charming village with a reputation for good restaurants. The trees and plants give it a lovely rural feel but the views down below reveal the bustling centre of the tourism south, the ferry port, and beyond the Atlantic in all its shimmering glory.

One and two bedroom apartments in Mirador del Atlantico have terraces, to make the most of the sun and the views. Spiral staircases give access to second floor private solariums, and below the complex, there is ample parking. All this and a light 2 tone pastel shade finish, makes these apartments stylish and perfect for relaxed living. For that added peace of mind, it’s good to know that they are built by Gomasper, one of the longest established builders in Tenerife, and official contractors for the Tenerife government.

Why settle in Tenerife?

One holiday and your hooked, Tenerife works its magic on most visitors, the beaches, the weather, the relaxed attitude, but that’s just scratching the surface, to really appreciate this island takes time. Although relatively small in size, Tenerife has some big surprises for anyone who thinks it’s just about beaches and sun bathing.

Contrast is the key word for Tenerife, where else could you go from vibrant commercial centres to small home produce markets, from vast beaches to small deserted coves, from pedestrianised promenades to rugged hill walks and from dancing at clubs into the early hours to traditional fiestas with free music and dance.

The contrast of the island is reflected in the wide choice of property and prices. If you want easy access to the beach and night life, one of the bigger towns could be for you, but even then, by taking a few steps back, you can get a great property tucked a short walk from all that you need. If rustic charm is your choice, head a little way into the hills and discover villages that retain their charm and character and offer some land for your family to enjoy. Prices can drop dramatically if you journey inland and there are also many new modern properties built in new remote locations that can offer the best of several worlds.

It’s an uncertain world at the moment with financial upheavel affecting many markets but Tenerife will always be a good investment, the sun, sea and beaches will always be here to welcome you when you need to relax.
